Green Revolution Association
GRA is the first urban environmental NGO in Romania.
(Asociatia Green Revolution) is based in Bucharest and is active in over 11 Romanian cities. GRA lobbies against the negative impact human activities have on the environment and stands for a better life quality for urban citizens. They propose, together with authorities, coherent environmental strategies and policies.
Their aims are:
- Raising awareness of environmental issues in Romania (alternative transport, waste management, energy, education)
- Introducing the bicycle as an alternative transport vehicle in the Romanian modal share (7% target by 2016)
- Developing I velo 2.0 as the next generation bike sharing model
- Developing managers know-how on the positive impact that environmental social responsibility has on there businesses.
They have the highest level of expertise in Romania through the bike-sharing system that they run: I Velo, Studentobike and Bicyles with ties – projects that have already encouraged over 1 million people in Romania to start biking. Furthermore, GRA promotes and supports environmental educational programs for children, authorities and businessmen. GRA is also the NGO responsible for the development of the Green Business Index (GBI), the barometer of corporate environmental responsibility in Romania, which monitors the green initiatives in the Romanian business sector.
