Bike2Work Austria: year of the records
/ Bike2Work Austria: year of the records
Last year's campaign was already a great success, in 2016 the national wide campaign "RadeltZurArbeit” in Austria gained huge momentum: 21.466 cyclists from 2.117 companies in 4.660 teams participated. This is an increase of 50% compared to the last year. The Austrian bike2work campaign is the forth biggest in Europe of this kind.
2.5 million kilometers were cycled during the bike2work campaign, which translates into 400 tons saved CO2. In the capital Vienna alone 900.000 kilometers were cycled to work, this is a new "RadeltZurArbeit” record. Vienna still is the state with the most participants but other states are catching up.
The biggest boost of cyclists was seen in the state "Upper Austria”. The participant number doubled compared to the last year and over 100 tons of CO2 could be saved in this state alone.
The initial campaign is over but participants can still cycle to work under the motto "Weiterradeln” (continue cycling) and win monthly prizes.
Besides the bike2work campaign "RadeltZurArbeit", Austria also encourages bicycling during work time. "Fahrrad als Dienstagen" (Bicycle as company car") is a scheme that offers benefits for using a company bike instead of a company car.
