Rimini to become the Italian Bike2Work champion
/ Rimini to become the Italian Bike2Work champion
Although the average distance home-work in Rimini is just 5 km, 73% of the working population prefers driving their cars instead of riding their bicycles (9%). The local Bike2Work campaign, organised by Love to Ride Romagna, aims at changing this behaviour.
After a first trial last year, Rimini, capital of the beautiful Costiera Romagnola, in Italy, is ready to fully join the Bike2Work project. Organised by Love to Ride, Finproject and ECF member FIAB, the campaign started on June 1st and will finish at the end of September. Thanks to the Love to Ride free app, a sort of "cycling social network", participants will share their rides and build a database containing extremely useful information for advocating organisations and public authorities.
In order to stimulate more people to participate, the whole campaign is conceived as a game: objectives, challenges, achievements and prizes have been put in place, including the possibility to win bike accessories, bicycles and even a trip to New Zealand. With such appealing incentives, the campaign is destined to be successful: on its very first day, it has already registered more participants than last year’s entire edition.
"We made taking part in the project easy and fun – said Alessandro Anghileri from Finproject – We managed to involve 15 partners, including local administrations, organisations and companies. Through such behaviour changing projects, we hope we’ll manage to reduce traffic, pollution and accidents.”
