/ Slovenian Bike2Work campaign "Bring happiness to work" doubled its participants
This year the national initiative "Bring happiness to work" that promotes cycling to work took place from mid May to mid June. Comparing to the previous year the number of participants more than doubled. The cyclists saved as much as 26 tons of CO2.
The initiative encouraged the employees to start their day actively and do something good for their mood, physical fitness, their wallet and ultimately the environment even before arriving to work. In 2016 it lasted from 16 May to 10 June. 233 teams of 3 and 599 individuals joined. A total of 1,298 riders (previous year 618 participants) cycled 160,968 kilometers and thus saved as much as 26 tons of CO2.
The average distance made during the 4 weeks of campaign of a team of 3 was 418 kilometers (139 kilometers per member), for individuals 142 km. An average distance cycled per cycling day between teams of three was 9,7 km, and between individuals 10,7 km. Based on the results of the survey, 77 percent of participants in this years campaign did not participate in the previous campaign.
Activities were coordinated by the European Cyclists' Federation and took place under the slogan "Bike2Work". The Bike2Work project was supported by City of Ljubljana, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the Cycling Festival Europe 2016, and other national and regional partners.
