Economic benefits for those choosing to cycle to work
Every European country has its own fiscal rules, taxation systems, and income tax reduction approach. Some of them are better than others, since they support economically walking, cycling, or using public transport for commuting to work, improving the country's sustainability
and its citizens' health situation.
In the pages underneath, we gathered several recommendations
for the European countries included in our study, underlining best practices and benchmarks
that could inspire public authorities towards a more cyclist-friendly environment. We took into consideration six different indicators
, namely: company cars as taxable benefit for employees, company cars as tax deductible for employers, public transport reimbursement, fiscal incentives for cyclists, mode-neutral solutions and income tax reductions for commuting. A top of five stars has been awarded for an exemplary legislation, and a minimum of one for the most harmful.
